The Wedding Planner

Why should you hire a wedding planner?

Congratulations on your engagement! Now comes the exciting and stressful time to plan your wedding. But, with work and social events, when will you have time to plan a wedding? Also, do you have any ideas on where to find good quality vendors? If you are worried about meeting all these criteria, then you might considering hiring a wedding planner to help you create and plan your beautiful day. For those of you who say you can plan your own wedding, well, you probably could, though you may find it frustrating and very time consuming. Look at it this way; if you have a leak in your bathroom or your kitchen or if your water tank needed replacing, you would hire a plumber to do the job. Right? Well, the same goes for a wedding. You have never organized a wedding before, so why not hire someone who is an expert and knows exactly what has to be done when and where to go to get all the important and relevant information.

Okay, so you have decided to hire a planner. Now it is time to search for the planner that fits your personality, your style, your budget and that you feel a connect to. There are lots of planners out there and search might feel a little overwhelming. To narrow down your search, take a look on Google, Wedding Wire or The Knot. Most good planners have reviews which can definitely give you an idea of what the person is capable of. Once you narrowed down your search to 3-5 planners, meet with the first 3 and see how you feel. I strongly suggest that you do not hire a planner based on price; you will not save money in the long run because he/she may not be that experienced and may make a lot of mistakes. Hire a planner on the basis of experience, creativity and whether you feel comfortable being in their presence.

If you decide that you can handle planning your wedding yourself, I would strongly suggest that you hire a wedding planner to coordinate the day of the wedding. I have had some couples tell me that their friend can do it, or their mother can take care of everything. However, do you really want your mother or your friend working on the day of your wedding? I think that your mother would want to enjoy her child’s wedding day and hosting all their friends,  and not have to worry about setting up the tables and chairs. And, many of those couples later told me that they regretted their decision and wished they had hired a planner to take care of all the details and keep everyone organized.
