Happy Retirement

After 14 years in the wedding and event industry, I have decided to sell Boutiq Weddings & Events and retire. It has been an amazing journey; I have met some amazing people, have had some wonderful experiences, and have had a great education. Now it is time to move on to new adventures and experiences. But I can’t leave without saying thank you to some wonderful people.

Thank you to Liz, Judy, and Colin from the Wedding Pavillion. You gave me my first job as an event manager and gave me a great base for starting my business. I loved working for the Pavillion and learning everything about the wedding business.

Yvette Shanahan, the previous owner of Avant-Garde Weddings, was my mentor when I started working my own business. Thank you Yvette for your patience, support, and friendship. I could not have started my business without you.

To Cathy MacRae, the owner of Creative Weddings, Planning and Design, thank you for always being there when I needed help with difficult clients and with my application for my Accredited Wedding Planning Certificate. Your help was invaluable. Most of all, thank you for being such a good friend,

I have worked with a number of florists over the years but my favorite is DeeVine Petals. Dana, the owner, does amazing work and is loved by all of her clients. She also taught me a lot about flowers, and how to make bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces, which was extremely helpful to know when working at weddings. Thank you Dana for teaching me, for your support, and most of all, for your friendship.

To my favorite marriage officiant, Tamara Jones, from Weddings by Tamara. Working with you was always such a pleasure and delight. My couples always had such lovely things to say about you. You have always been so professional and kind, which added to the ceremony atmosphere. Thank you for being so kind to me and for your support throughout the years.

After being in the industry for 7 years, I joined the Association of Bridal Consultants. It is a wonderful organization of wedding vendors who are very supportive of one another. I really enjoyed the conferences and learned so much; meeting other planners from all over the world was very validating and fun. Thank you Annemarie for always answering my questions and for your support.

To the many photographers, I have worked with over the years. There are too many of you to mention, but I remember all of you. You have all been an inspiration to me; so much so, that I will be taking a photography course to learn about portrait photography. Thank you for taking such amazing photos and making my weddings look wonderful.

Thank you to my children Adam, Carina, and Tara. Without you, I would not have my branding, social media posts, and my website. Tara and Mary thank you for helping with my weddings when I was stuck for help. I could not have done any of this without all of you.

Marina Aboettcher was my assistant for over 6 years. Thank you for your efficiency, your hard work, and your amazing help. Your help and support always made my weddings flow seamlessly.

The DJ I worked with the most is Bobby Molina and his lovely wife Jenny from Backstreet Productions. Your music made the reception so much fun. Thank you for your professionalism, for your support, and for being so much fun to work with.

To Shannon Colins from Chair Flair. I met you while working at the Wedding Pavillion and have always admired your entrepreneurship. You taught me a lot about event set-ups and take-downs. You were also very supportive and kind to me. Thank you!

Thank you to all my family and friends who have been my cheerleaders and supporters during my wedding planning career. You certainly helped me stay focused and enthusiastic about my business.

And most importantly, I want to thank my husband, Gerry, for putting up with my messy office, for the couples’ items that I stored, and my coming home in the middle of the night after a wedding. I could not have done it without your support, advice, and patience.

So, I had my last wedding on Sept 16th in Banff. It was a fun wedding and the bride and groom had a wonderful time with their family and friends. What a great way to end my career!

So, to all the other vendors that I have worked with over the years. You contributed so much to making my weddings great successes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Farewell, my friends and all the best to all of you,

Big hug,

Alexandra
