Every year I look forward to seeing all the new and fun wedding trends! From the gown to the decor, to the food, each new year brings something different. Also thanks to social media, brides are working extra hard to create a unique experience at their weddings and “grammable” moments. Let’s take a look at what we are seeing for this year’s wedding:
People are thinking about the environment more than ever, and this is starting to emerge in the wedding industry. Brides are focusing on how their event will affect the environment and how the vendors they choose are being conscious of this as well. Think, biodegradable napkins and straws, ethically made wedding dresses and suits, conscious florists. Every time you choose to go with a vendor or purchase something for your wedding, you are making a choice to either help or hurt the environment!
Beef, fish, or chicken are no longer the standard options for wedding meals. Guests have greater dietary restrictions and preferences; gluten free, vegan, dairy free, and more. This shouldn’t be seen as a hurdle to get over on your wedding day, see it as an opportunity to have really delicious and creative food for your guests. This also goes past hors d’oeuvres and dinner time. When thinking about your dessert try and have an inclusive menu offering more than just wedding cake.
For the brides! We are seeing different hairpieces, headbands, barrets, and jewelry for our brides. This trend is a great way to show your personal style. When thinking of trying out a new hair accessory don’t forget to think about whether or not you’re going to wear a veil and your hair. You’ll want something that is secure and that you won’t have to reposition all night long. Also consider wearing it around the house to make sure it doesn’t hurt your head after an hour or so, circa your grade 5 headband.
Statement Wedding Decor
Remember those “grammable” moments we mentioned at the top? Well, this is where statement wedding decor comes in. Brides are opting to spend most of their decor budget on a single decor piece or bigger pieces for photo ops. Think balloon arches, flower walls, and photo booth backdrops. Give your guests a fun spot to take memorable photos in a spot that is unique to your wedding!
Of course, custom wedding invites and paper goods have been around forever, but now the ability to not only choose the design and color are options but also the type of paper and ink! Back to our first trend, you can use recycled paper and soy based ink if you are keeping it green. You can match your invites, menus, and thank you cards to your website. The options are pretty endless, and couples are getting super creative with their designs.
At the end of the day whether you decide to follow the trends or create your own, it’s your wedding day and you should do exactly what you want. Trends will come and go, as long as you have the best time that’s all that should matter!
